Western Command chief Lt Gen Sangha retires

Jammu, Jul 31: Lt Gen GS Sangha, Chief of Staff, HQ Western Command superannuated on 31 Jul 2020 after rendering 39 years of glorious service to the nation.
He laid a wreath at Veer Smriti to pay respects to the martyrs of Western Command on the day of his bidding adieu to uniform.
Lt Gen GS Sangha is a second generation officer and was commissioned into 11 'GRENADIERS' in Dec 1981.
The General Officer had a distinguished and illustrious military career and has tenanted various command, staff and instructional appointments in varied, sensitive and operational sectors and difficult terrain.
The General Officer has rich command experience including command of Rasthriya Rifles Battalion and a Mountain Brigade in Jammu & Kashmir, a Mountain Division & a Corps in Eastern Theatre. He has always been at the forefront, has led troops by example and a role model for the organisation.
His contributions towards improvement of infrastructure and welfare of troops have been immense and immeasurable.
During his tenure as Chief of Staff of HQ Western Command, Lt Gen GS Sangha was instrumental in reducing non operational causalities, bringing improvements in functioning of various Army Institutions and give impetus to Ex-Servicemen Welfare Schemes & facilities.
His administrative & management skills, deep involvement and judicious ideas have helped to cope up with COVID-19 situation very effectively in the entire Command theatre.
