Impose blanket ban on pvt. practice of doctors: Balvinder
30/10/2020
JAMMU Oct 29: Balvinder Singh Social Activist, along with other Civil Society members S Sharanjit Singh, Sh Mahesh Kotwal & S Iqbal Singh, while addressing the press Conference said that Govt Medical colleges and medical institutions were opened to improve the standards of academics and patient care.
Half a century back the institutions like AIIMS ( Delhi ),PGI ( Chandigarh ), and JIPMER Pondicherry came up.
The founding fathers of these institutions firmly laid the foundations of these institutions and the institutions ( like mentioned above )are still shinning like pole stars in the respective regions of lndia, by maintaining the highest levels of academics and excellent patient care. NOT ALLOWING PRIVATE PRACTICE to faculty was the basic reason for preventing the collapse of the academic and Medicare standards of these institutions .
Singh said Medical colleges (GMCJ, GMCS, JVMC) in the main cities of Jammu and Srinagar came up , but the maximum standards of academics and Medicare could not cross above a certain level, and then declined fast, again due to private practice by the faculty .
Balvinder further said that at one stage there was talk of tagging the ban on private practice in medical colleges , with the new rules for fast promotion of teachers in medical colleges ( by implementing MCI rules ).
The new rules for fast promotion of teachers got implemented, but the proposal for banning private practice got stashed. Unfounded stories of dearth of staff and faculty are repeatedly circulated (by the strong lobbies of medical college faculty ) to influence and frighten the authorities by calculated misinformation, whenever a move starts to ban the private practice in the state medical colleges.
In fact there will never be any dearth if the provision of lateral entry ( as in new medical colleges as well as super speciality hospitals )is extended for a few vacancies which may arise off and on.
