Debutant Jhataleka Malhotra on Kamal Haasan’s proposal of salary for homemakers: It is important to understand the sentimental value behind being a homemaker

Recently actor-cum-politician, Kamal Haasan initiated the idea of recognising housework as a salaried profession with a monthly wage from the state government to provide recognition and monetize the service of female homemakers in society.
While this turned into a hot debate on social media, the first runner-up in Femina Miss India 2014, Jhataleka Malhotra who is all set to foray into Bollywood with 'Tuesdays and Fridays’ backed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
Expressing her point of view, the actress said, “Well, in my opinion, this is a great thought and would only help women be more independent and recognise their efforts as homemakers.
At the same time, it is important to understand the sentimental value behind being a homemaker and not hurt the emotions attached to it.”
Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, who is known to voice her opinions on Twitter, had also reacted to the debate.
She had expressed that a price tag must not be put on the efforts of women.
Kangana had said, "Don't put a price tag on sex we have with our love, don't pay us for mothering our own, we don't need salary for being the Queens of our own little kingdom our home, stop seeing everything as business. Surrender to your woman she needs all of you not just your love/respect/salary."
