Youth Sport Climbing Training Camp concludes

JAMMU, Jan 15: 5-days Youth Sport Climbing Training Camp being organized by Mountaineering Association of J&K under the aegis of Indian Mountaineering Foundation North Zone Committee from 11th to 15th January to popularize the game among the masses and to identify the talent at the grass root level concluded at Tenzing Norgay Sport Climbing Wall in Sprawling Buds ICSE School campus, Bantalab, here today. The camp which was inaugurated on 11th January, 2021 by former MLA Ashwani Sharma has been sponsored by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Prof. Lalit Magotra, President Dogri Sanstha, Jammu who is also advisor of Tawi Trekkers J&K was the Chief Guest at thevaledictory function who witnessedthe demonstration oflead and speed climbing byinternational climbersShivani Charak and ArunDeep Singh. He interacted with thetrainees and showed keeninterest to know about the finerpoints of the game learnt by the trainees.While congratulating theassociation for producingnational champions andinternational medalists, he assured the organisers allpossible help for the promotionof the game.
On the occasion the chiefguest Prof. Lalit Magotra and Guest of Honour Vivek Chauhan, Principal of Oriental Academy Senior Secondary School, Jammu were presented mementoes by General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K Shawetica Khajuria.
The training camp inwhich about 29 local persons including 9 girls in the age group of 15 to 29 years, participated was organized under the overall supervision of Ms. Shawetica Khajuria, General Secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K. Abhimanyu Sherpa, a pioneer sport climber of J&K headed the technical team which included International climbers Shivani Charak andArun Deep Singh.Sonam Sidharth, Sakshi Magotra, Vishali Sharma and Ajay Deep Singh formed the panel of judges, route setters and belayers.These officials were, however, ably assisted by some active sport climbers of the Association.
