VDC members showcase skill

JAMMU, Apr 14: Indian Army in collaboration with civil administration organised a Village Defence Committee (VDC) meet in Songri and Gambhir villages in District Rajouri (J&K).
The VDCs play a significant part in assisting the forces in Counter Terrorism Operations, maintaining vigil over inimical elements and assisting in maintaining peace in the region. Meaningful interaction was carried out with local members and modalities of training of VDCs were also discussed.
The event was optimally utilised for imparting training on weapon handling, cleaning, musketry, firing and refreshing the individuals on weapon maintenance drills. VDC members also displayed their training prowess and skills in weapon handling.
The Army unit assisted all the members of VDC in further improving their self defence capabilities and laid emphasis on the role of Village Defence Committee. VDC members were also briefed about the prevalent situation with respect to modus operandi of terrorists in order to execute swift and effective response, tactics being employed by anti-national elements and how important their role is to ensure sustained peace and prosperity in the region.
From civil administration, Mrs Shamim Akhtar, District Development Council Member, Miss Anjana Sudhan, Block Development Officer, Moghula Block, Police Representative of Triyath Police Post, Sarpanch and Panch of various villages also attended the meet. The issue of old ammunition was also raised with civil administration representatives during the meet by the VDCs. A total of 134 VDC members attended the event.
