4,141 new COVID-19 cases, 59 deaths in J&K

Admin launches massive drive to implement Covid containment SOPs, guidelines | 20,000 COVID care centre beds being activated

JAMMU, May 16: Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday recorded 4,141 fresh COVID-19 cases, raising the tally to 2,44,608, while 59 more deaths pushed the fatality count to 3,149 in the union territory, officials said.
Of the fresh cases, 1,690 were reported from the Jammu division and 2,451 from the Kashmir division, they said.
The officials said Srinagar district recorded the highest of 831 cases, followed by 625 in Jammu district and 320 in Budgam district.
The number of active cases is 51,623 in the union territory, while 1,89,836 patients have recovered so far, they said. The death toll in the union territory due to the pandemic rose to 3,149 with 59 fresh deaths in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, amid reports of shortage of vaccines in Kashmir, no jab was administered across the 10 districts in the Valley on Sunday, the officials said.
District Administration Jammu has launched a massive drive for effective implementation of Covid containment SoPs and guidelines across the District.
The latest Guidelines and SOPs issued by the State Disaster Management Committee and District Magistrate are being enforced on the ground through the ADMs, Tehsildars and Naib-Tehsildars and Police department.
The drive was focused particularly in rural areas of Tehsils Bishnah, Arnia, Nagrota, R.S.Pura, Akhnoor, Dansal, Jourian, Jammu West and Niabats Rehal, Miran Sahib, Gole-Gujral, Chak Malal and Digiana alongwith Narwal Sabzi Mandi.
A separate team of officers headed by Executive Magistrate Ist class alongwith SHO, P/S Pacca Danga and officers of Legal Metrology, FCS&CA and Food Safety conducted market checking in the areas of Kacchi Chawni, Pacca Danga and Parade Sabzi Mandi and checked Mutton shops, Milk Shops, Kiryana Shops and Vegetable/Fruit shops.
During the checking, fine was recovered from violators with the warning to the traders to ensure standard of purity, quality and hygiene of the products especially perishable items to minimize the chances of transmission of infection.
In Bishnah, Arnia, and R.S. Pura towns, besides at Niabats of Miran Sahib and Rehal, the teams of officers of Revenue comprising concerned Tehsildars and SHOs led by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Law & Order), Jammu inspected different market areas to ensure that Guidelines/SOPs as also the restrictions for containment of Covid-19 Pandemic are being implemented on the ground.
During the physical checking of Grocery, Fruit /vegetables and dairy products shops (Milk Vendor shops) in the morning hours, some violations viz. non-wearing of compulsory face masks, non-maintenance of social distancing were noticed and a fine to the tune of Rs. 12,500 was recovered on the spot from the violators.
In Gole Gujral and Bhagwati Nagar area of Tehsil Jammu West, a team of officers headed by Tehsildar Jammu West alongwith Naib Tehsildar and concerned SHO visited to different areas and inspected enforcement of restrictions and implementation of guidelines and SOPs for containment of Covid-19 pandemic. During the physical checking, some violations viz non wearing of compulsory face masks, non-maintenance of social distancing were noticed and fine to the tune of Rs. 37000 was realised on the spot from the violators.
Similarly, in Jourian Town of Sub Division Akhnoor, a team of officers headed by Tehsildar Jourian alongwith concerned Naib Tehsildar visited different areas and recovered Rs. 3000 fine from the violators.
As many as 20,000 COVID care centre (CCC) beds are being activated across Jammu and Kashmir for admitting coronavirus positive patients with no or mild symptoms and cannot do home isolation, an official order said on Sunday.
The order, issued by chief secretary B V R Subrahmanyam, said the CCCs would be opened closer to rural areas in all the 20 districts with 1,000 beds each.
Health Department will work out the feasibility of providing some of these CCC beds with oxygen support, Subrahmanyam, who is also chairperson of the State Executive Committee of the Department of Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction, said.
The order was issued following a detailed review of the current COVID-19 situation in the union territory by the Lt Governor at a high-level meeting here on Saturday.
The Bulletin further said that out of 7921228test results available, 7921228 samples have been tested as negative till 16thMay, 2021.
Till date 1965811 persons have been enlisted for observation which included 74816 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 51623 in isolation and 119230in home surveillance. Besides, 1716993 persons have completed their surveillance period.
Providing district-wise breakup, the Bulletin said that Srinagar has 58030 positive cases (including 831 cases reported today) with 8425 Active Positive, 48923recovered (including 1269cases recovered today), 682 deaths; Baramulla has 18038 positive cases (including 252 cases reported today)with 3440Active Positive, 14376recovered (including 332 cases recovered today), 222 deaths; Budgam reported 16022 positive cases (including320 cases reported today)with 3994 active positive cases, 11876 recovered (including 351cases recovered today), 152 deaths; Pulwama has 10742 positive cases (including 177 cases reported today)with2642Active Positive, 7962recovered (including 141 cases recovered today)and 138 deaths; Kupwara has 9372 positive cases (including 148 cases reported today), 1813 Active Positive, 7439recoveries (including 116 cases recovered today), 120 deaths; Anantnag district has 11547 positive cases (including 199 cases reported today)with 4076 Active Positive, 7335recovered (including 204 cases recovered today), 136 deaths; Bandipora has 6953 positive cases (including89 cases reported today), with897Active Positive and 5982 recoveries (including 65 cases recovered today),74 deaths; Ganderbal has 6968 positive cases (including 152cases reported today)with 1136Active Positive, 5770 recoveries (including 91 cases recovered today)and62deaths; Kulgam has 7760 positive cases (including 228 cases reported today)with 3435 Active Positive, 4245recoveries (including180 cases recovered today)and 80 deaths while as Shopian has 4481 positive cases (including 55 cases reported today),1331active positive cases, 3106 recoveriesand44 deaths.

According to the bulletin, among the total 244608 positive cases in J&K, 20925have been reported as travelers while 223683 as others.
The Bulletin said that the breakup represents districts from which the patients have been traced or are ordinarily residing.
The bulletin added that there are 2547 COVID dedicated beds, 2286 Isolation beds with 832vacant beds and 261 ICU beds where 78 beds are vacant in Jammu division while there are 2853 COVID dedicated beds, 2720 Isolation beds where 1082 beds are vacant and 133 ICU beds where 74are vacant beds in Kashmir division. There are a total of 5400 COVID dedicated beds, 5006 Isolation beds with 1914 beds vacant and 394 ICU beds with 152vacant beds in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
