Balancing my professional and personal lives was not much of a challenge: Lara Dutta
20/09/2021
Lara Dutta Bhupathi’s turn as Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in BellBottom was highly appreciated. It was the actress’ first prominent film appearance in a long time.
The actress who started her career playing Akshay Kumar’s leading lady in Andaaz has become increasingly selective about her work. While she opted for small yet strong characters in films once in a while, she moved to play central roles in OTT shows.
The recent spy drama, in many ways, brought her back to the big screen. Talking about the life she has led away from the spotlight, Lara, who has been in the UK for the last few weeks with her daughter Saira, says, “It was all organic and I was clear about my priorities.
At the point in my life when I got married, I’d done a lot of work in my career, and I had done all the work there was for a leading lady at that time. So, I wanted to have a family and eventually, wanted to be around my daughter and my husband.
My daughter was little, and I wanted to be there for her. It’s not that the offers had dried up, but when I started taking up acting assignments, I looked for something that was different from what I had already done. It’s a blessing to be an actor right now. Balancing my professional and personal lives was not much of a challenge because my priorities were always clear.
Acting is not the be-all and end-all of my existence. Reinvention is the key today. I feel it’s important to make that transition in life, and everything happened for me for a reason and pretty organically.”
