JAMMU, Sep 21: "Ever since its existence the resolve of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Bar Association (JKHCBAJ), Jammu has been twofold- ensure welfare and well-being of the lawyers and ensure a proper working environment and standby and fight for the just cause of the people of Jammu region. There are glorious past examples to show how steadfastly the JKHCBAJ has stood by its commitment, said Mr M.K Bhardwaj President J&KH-CBA Jammu in a press statement.
"The lawyers fraternity has been standing at a crossroads after the prolonged spell of COVID-19 pandemic leading to closure, fully or partially, of the courts resulting in work loss. This situation has been aggravated and added to the lawyers problems by changes that came with the formation of Union Territory without consulting the fraternity. The issues such as transfer of registration work to the Revenue Department, re-opening of Consumers Courts, CAT and various Tribunals functioning in a scattered manner have added to the lawyers' woes and made their survival difficult. The new JKHCBAJ has already set out on a course to redressal and sought indulgence of the authorities concerned to address these issues, the Bar team said.
As is known that the Jammu Chamber of Commerce of Industry along with other business and trade organizations, has given a call for Jammu bandh for September 22, 2021 to draw the UT Administration's attention to hardships faced by them on account of some "faulty policies".
The Chamber President, Mr Arun Gupta along with his team had approached the Bar Association last week with a request to support the call. The JKHCBAJ had a thorough discussion with a cross-section of its members to decide its course of action in this regard.
Strongly feeling that issues of great public significance are involved including the problems being faced by the lawyers, the JKHCBAJ has decided to " Support The Jammu Bandh Call".
It is hoped that Lt Governor Mr Manoj Sinha and his Administration take note of the problems being faced by Jammu region in particular the lawyers, traders, businessmen, farmers, unemployed youth and also the civic and infrastructural deficiencies, and address the same to make life easier for the people.
