Delhi feels like home to me, as all my films have been shot here: Sonnalli Seygall

22/09/2021

Delhi has a special place in Sonnalli Seygall’s heart as not only does she have many relatives living here, but also because all her movies have been shot in the capital. The actress, who was in the city recently for an event, shares, “It genuinely feels like home, all my films have been shot here. I also have a lot of relatives living in the city and I fly down here for professional events regularly as well.”
On a recent trip to the city, the actress spoke about dealing with professional uncertainties during the pandemic, as well as her physical and mental fitness routine.
‘Journaling and focusing on my mental health really got me through the lockdown’
The actress, who keeps her social media updated with her fitness videos, adds that mental fitness is more important to her than physical fitness. “In the lockdown, I was putting up a lot of yoga and fitness videos, so people might be thinking that I was motivated every single day to work out but that is not the case. I was doing yoga, I was working out, I was dancing... but I had days when I didn’t feel motivated or energetic enough to work out. What really got me through the lockdown was my mental fitness and by that, I mean, keeping my thoughts in check. I had my low moments, I had my phases of anxiety.”
She adds, “When I meditate, I usually give about 20-30 minutes to it every day but even after that, throughout the day, I am constantly watching my emotions and thoughts. I also came back to my journaling practice in the lockdown. I used to do that in school and stopped when I moved to Mumbai. However, during the pandemic, I was paying attention to my thoughts and writing them down. These things really got me through the lockdown.”
‘Not frustrated about my film being on hold because of the pandemic’
Sonnalli’s film Boondi Raita was expected to go on the floors last year, but the film’s crew has not been able to begin shooting due to the lockdown. She tells us that she has accepted the uncertainties brought about by this phase.
“It’s not frustrating that my film is on hold because I have accepted that times are uncertain and things are forever changing. We were supposed to shoot in April–May this year. The crew had reached Dehradun and one of the crew members got COVID and the lockdown happened. It wasn’t a shock for me because I have prepared myself for any uncertainty. To be honest, things have worked out in my favour. Since the film got pushed back, I was able to take on two more projects (she has two web series in the pipeline). For me, it has really worked out because I have not sat free. I hope we start shooting for the project soon and I know it will all work out,” she says.
