JAMMU, Sep 23: Apni Trade Union today urged Govt. to accept demands of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries and put a bar on such companies who try to overtake business in Jammu, and Kashmir.
A joining programme was organised by Provincial President Raj Kumar Sharma, under the leadership of President, ATU, Ajaz Kazmi at Gandhi Nagar Office, Apni Party.
Prominent among those who joined Apni Party included Puran Chand, Manohar Lal, Nazir Ahmed, Rakesh Kumar, Sunny Kumar, Arif Mohammed, Showkat Ali, Neeraj Kumar, Bano, Pano, Neeraj Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Mohan Lal, Subash Chander, Prem Chand and others.
Welcoming them into the party, Ajaz Kazmi said that the Govt. should accept the demands of the traders and not allow opening of Reliance stores in Jammu as they will snatch the business of wholesalers and retailers.
"J&K is dependent on the Govt. services, tourism and small businesses. The people here are not rich enough to compete with the businessmen in Mumbai, Delhi, Punjab or any other state of the country," he said.
He said that the opening of Reliance stores has posed a serious threat to the local businessmen which has led to their agitation. To defuse the situation, and support the business community of Jammu and Kashmir, he said, the Govt. should not permit Reliance to open its stores in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said that people are worried about their future if such stores open in J&K without restrictions. "When Ladakh can have protections, Jammu and Kashmir should equally be treated and provided jobs, and land protections under the constitution so that outsiders are barred from buying property, and over taking business," he said and demanded protection of rights of the people. Speaking on the occasion, Ex-MLA Faqir Nath, said that discrimination with Jammu will not be tolerated. "The people have remained silent to many injustices in the past. However, the people have realised that if they continue to remain silent, their resources, and business will be taken over by the outsiders," said the Ex-MLA.
Provincial Secretary, Dr Rohit Gupta also spoke on the occasion and said that they stand with the traders of Jammu and Kashmir and support their demands.
SC State Coordinator, Bodh Raj Bhagat also expressed his concern over the situation and demanded resolution of the situation so that normal life is resumed.
"The protests and hartals have affected normal life. The Govt. should understand that pressuring the businessmen in Jammu and Kashmir to accept what is not in their favour will bring more problems," he said.
Earlier, Provincial President, ATU, Raj Kumar Sharma said that they will continue to raise the issues of the traders, hoteliers, and workers engaged in different Govt. departments.
District President, ATU, Jammu, Anirudh Vasist, also spoke on the occasion, while highlighting the concerns of the Jammuities about involvement of outsiders in extraction minerals and business.
He said that the people have become suspicious about the policies of the Govt. apprehending that their source of earning is being snatched step by step. The programme was also attended by Provincial Secretary, Mohammed Ashraf, District General Secretary, Farooq Chauhan, District President, Samba, Sunny Sambyal, District President, Udhampur, Hans Raj Dogra and others.
