Modi Govt working tirelessly to empower women: Raina

JAMMU, Sep 23: BJP J&K President Ravinder Raina on Thursday said that BJP government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is working tirelessly to empower women in the country and is very concerned for their safety and education.
The BJP stalwart leader was speaking during a programme held in connection with Beti Bachao Beti Padhao here at BJP headquarters in Trikuta Nagar. Minister Parliament Jugal Kishore Sharma, former BJP Minister Priya Sethi and other leaders of the party were also present besides Convenors and C0-convenors of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Abhiyan hailing from all the districts of J&K UT.
During the programme, seven women Achievers namely Geetika Kohli Amla, Arshiya Sharma, Sonali Dogra, Suvidha Sarin, Geetika Kohli, Gurjeet Kour, Bhargvi Sharma and Gurmeet Kour were felicitated for their exemplary work in different fields.
Ravinder Raina said since the inception of BJP Government in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken special initiative with regard to safety and studies of the girl child and to accomplish the same many exclusive schemes have been launched under his stewardship. He said that central dispensation is quite focused on empowering the women in the country especially J&K as lot many schemes have been crafted to ensure financial security to girls and women besides looking into their educational and health related needs. He said J&K has a tradition to pay respect to women in general and young girls in particular, as the tradition of Kanjak Poojan is one of the main rituals of the people of this region. He said that going by the tradition of J&K, the Prime Minister has also organized Kanjak Poojan at PMO soon after taking the charge of the country in 2014. "It is BJP's promise and responsibility to stand with women and a campaign for empowering women in the country is going on at a fast pace", he said adding that there are number of schemes designed exclusively for girls and women by the BJP government like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Sukanya scheme, Ladli Beti, Marriage assistance, etc. He said that the success of these schemes can be well understood by taking examples of Rajasthan and Haryana states where the sex ratio was dismal but after PM Modi's dedicated efforts things have started working and the situation out there is now promising. He said that girls and women have shown the world that they are not less than anybody as they have set examples in every field whether it is army, air force, Olympics, academics, etc, everywhere the girls are standing shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts.
He specifically mentioned the name of former minister Priya Sethi, and applauded her for taking revolutionary steps for empowering women in J&K during her tenure as education minister. He said that the onus of making people aware of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme and dozen others lies on the shoulders of Convenors and Co-convenors of the campaign. He asked them to reach out to people and ask them to avail maximum benefit of these schemes.
Member Parliament Jugal Kishore, in his address, said that the Modi government has ensured safety and security of women as never before and has given teeth to the laws meant for dealing crime against the women.
Speaking on the occasion, Priya Sethi paid rich tributes to Maharaja Hari Singh, the last ruler of the princely state of J&K and applauded the role played by the great King to empower women at that time. She said that landmark decisions of Maharaja Hari Singh made the foundation of strong women in the erstwhile state of J&K. She said that despite the diverse cultures prevailing in J&K, there is one similarity in all these cultures that each of them respects women to the hilt. She said that BJP government under PM Modi has given vistas of opportunities to womenfolk to lead an independent life having self-reliance as one of its features. She said that no other dispensation except BJP has given so much for the empowerment of the women by way of giving numerous opportunities to study, work and remain healthy.
Others present in the programme include Co-convenor Gurmeet Randhawa, Rekha Manhas, Rekha Sharma and Sadhvi Savitananjee.
