Militant involved in civilian killings gunned down in encounter in Pulwama

Srinagar, Oct 15: Two militants, who were involved in the killing of a police officer and a civilian here, were killed in the two separate gunfights in Kashmir on Friday evening, police said.
According to the police, one militant involved in the killing of Probationary Sub Inspector (PSI) Arshid Ahmad was killed by the security forces in the encounter at the Bemina area in Srinagar. The gunfight erupted on Friday evening during a cordon and search operation in the area which was jointly carried by Police and CRPF.
"As a suspected spot was being cordoned, the gunmen fired upon the forces, ensuing the gunfight in which one terrorist was killed," a police officer said.
Inspector General of Police, Vijay Kumar said the slain was involved in the killing of a probationary PSI in Srinagar. The PSI was killed on September 12.
"Killer of martyr PSI Arshid killed in Bemina encounter," Kashmir Zone Police said in a tweet, quoting the IGP.
On September 12, a Jammu and Kashmir Police Probationary Officer was shot dead in a hit and run attack at Khanyar in Srinagar's old city. An hour before the Bemina gunfight, a militant was killed in south Kashmir Pulwama district.
The gunfight in south Kashmir erupted this evening when joint teams of police, Army and CRPF launched an operation at Wahibugh village of the district.
"As the cordon and search operation was taking place, hiding terrorists opened fire triggering a gunfight. One terrorist has been killed so far," a police officer said.
According to the Inspector General of Police, the slain militant has been identified as Shahid Basir Sheikh, a resident of Srinagar, who was involved in the killing of Mohammad Shafi Dar, a civilian, on Oct 2.
"Killed terrorist has been identified as Shahid Basir Sheikh of Srinagar. He was involved in the recent killing of a civilian (Mohd Safi Dar, PDD Deptt's staff). An AK 47 rifle was used in his killing. One AK rifle along with Mag/Amn recovered," a police tweet while quoting the IGP said.
On October 2, two civilians were killed in two separate incidents in Srinagar city. A civilian Abdul Majid Guru, a resident of Chattabal in Srinagar, was shot dead at Karan Nagar area. Hours later, another civilian Mohammad Shafi Dar, an employee of Power Development Department, was gunned down at Batamaloo.
