JKSLCA organizes one-day awareness program on “Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures”

JAMMU, Jan 15: Jammu & Kashmir State Level Coordinating Agency (JKSLCA) under National Action Plan for Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), today organized a one-day awareness program on "Drug Abuse and Preventive Measures" for teachers and senior students at Regional Educ-ational Society, Kathua, district Samba. By strictly following the COVID-19 protocol, around 40 participants participated in the program. Project Director, Suraj Prakash welcomed SLCA team and talked about the prevailing drug situation in India. Resource person, Ms. Shikha from NGO delivered a lecture on "Drug Abuse & Preventive Measures" with the help of PowerPoint presentation. As per National Action Plan on Drug Demand Reduction (NAPDDR), Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MOSJE), Government of India (GOI), programs like these need to be conducted on a regular basis covering all strata of society.
Resource person talked about the motive of the program which is to generate awareness regarding the Drug Abuse, preventive measures and Treatment. She explained that Drug/ alcohol abuse is raising day by day in the society and youth of our society is involving at large number in the addiction. She discussed various types of drugs (tobacco, caffeine, depressants, stimulants etc.) and how they are consumed. Ms. Shikha educated the participants about the long- and short-term effects of different types of drugs on body, mind, career and family. She further added that drug addiction is not only confined to body, mind and career but it is also illegal to consume it.
Poster making competition was organized by SLCA team for senior students. Students enthusiastically participated in the competition. Pamphlets were distributed among the participants. Program ended with discussions and Question-answer session and resource person patiently answered all the queries of the participants. Prizes were distributed among the winners. Hari Singh won the 1st prize, Taniya 2nd and Isha 3rd prize. Program concluded with the vote of thanks by Ms. Komal Sharma, SLCA official.
