DC Kathua reviews functioning of ICDS, Social Welfare Department

Stresses on skill up-gradation of womenfolk

KATHUA, May 17: Dep-uty Commissioner Kathua Rahul Pandey today reviewed the functioning of the ICDS & Social Welfare Department here at a meeting held in the Conference Hall of the DC office Com-plex. Among the others, Programme Officer ICDS, Kulbhushan Khajuria; Dist-rict Social Welfare Officer, Abdul Rahim and CDPOs attended the meeting. A detailed discussion regarding the removal of duplication of pension cases and Scholarships, functioning of Anganwadi centres and other matters was held in the meeting.
At the Outset, the DS-WO gave a detailed presentation of the functioning of the Social Welfare Depart-ment in the district. He gave a detailed account of the status of central and UT schemes including NSAP, ISSS, NFBS, SMAS, PMAGY, ADIP, BBBP, SCA to SCP, BJRCY and others.
Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commis-sioner asked the concerned officer from the Social Welfare Department to verify the genuineness of the pension beneficiaries in the district and apprise him about the status. The Deputy Commissioner also directed the social welfare officer to submit a plan to identify the ineligible beneficiaries and ensure that only eligible and genuine beneficiaries avail the benefit of the schemes. The Deputy Commissioner also called upon DSWO to work out modalities to bring the inmates of Nari Niketan within the ambit of SHGs and impart them necessary vocational training & skills so that they can secure their livelihood. He also called for convergence and inter-departmental coordination to explore income generating avenues for skilled women to make them independent & self reliant.
While reviewing the progress under ICDS, the DC laid stress on conducting VHND, establishment of Poshan Vatikas in AWCs, & working out the feasibility to shift AWCs from rented accommodations to some Govt/abandoned buildings. The DC also enjoined upon all CDPOs to devise a mechanism to generate awareness among the beneficiaries especially Pregnant & Lactating women who are entitled under various welfare & health related sche-mes. Regarding aadhaar seeding of bank accounts of beneficiaries he directed concerned officers to ensu-re 100% aadhaar seeding in all the individual oriented schemes. The PO ICDS gave details about the activities undertaken under various schemes like Suppleme-ntary Nutrition, Health Checkups, Pradhan Mantri Matritva Vandana Yojana (PMMVY), Poshan Abhi-yan, Scheme for Adolescent Girls (SAG), BBBP and Ladli Beti.
