Hybrid terrorist, three terrorist associates of LeT arrested | Police attach five houses in Srinagar for ‘harbouring’ terrorists

SRINAGAR, Jun 22: Police and security forces have neutralised 04 local terrorists including killer of Martyr SI Farooq Ahmad in two anti-terrorist operations carried out in Pulwama and Sopore.
In Pulwama, acting on specific information input generated by Police regarding presence of terrorists in village Tujjan, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (53RR) & CRPF (183Bn) in the said area. During the search operation, as the joint party approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding terrorists fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated effectively leading to an encounter.
In the ensuing encounter, 02 terrorists of proscribed terror outfit JeM were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Abid Ahmad Sheikh resident of Barpora Pulwama and Majid Nazir Wani resident of Banpora Ladoo Pampore.
As per police records, both the killed terrorists were part of group involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on security forces and civilian atrocities. Besides, the killed terrorist Majid Nazir Wani was also involved in the killing of Martyr SI Farooq Ahmad.
Incriminating materials, huge cache of arms & ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.
Similarly in Sopore, based on specific input generated by Police regarding presence of terrorists in Tulibal area of Sopore, a joint cordon and search operation was launched by Police, Army (52RR) and CRPF in the said area.
During the search operation, as the presence of terrorists got ascertained, they fired indiscriminately upon the joint search party which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, 02 terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT were killed and their bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. They have been identified as Zahid Ahmad Chopan resident of Tengwani Shopian and Mohd Youns Gul resident of Washbugh Pulwama.
As per police records, both the killed terrorists had joined terror folds recently.
Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition including 02 AK-47 rifles & 04 Magazines have been recovered from the site of encounter. All the recovered materials have been taken into case records for further investigation.
IGP Kashmir Shri Vijay Kumar congratulated the joint teams for carrying out the anti-terrorist operations in professional manner without any collateral damage. He also appreciated the joint team for tracking & neutralizing the terrorist involved in the recent killing of police officer in Pulwama.
Regarding both the incidents, Police have registered cases under relevant sections of law and investigation has been initiated. People are requested to cooperate with Police till the areas are completely sanitized and cleared off of all the explosive materials, if any.
Meanwhile, security forces arrested a "hybrid terrorist" of the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit in Baramulla district while three terrorist associates were held in Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Tuesday.
Acting on specific information regarding the movement of terrorists, a joint checkpoint was established near Juhama crossing in Baramulla by police and 52 RR of the Army at about 4 pm on Tuesday, a police spokesman said.
During checking, the movement of a suspicious person was noticed and after seeing the security forces, he tried to flee. However, the alert joint party apprehended him, he said.0
The spokesman said the arrested person was identified as Shahid Ahmad Parray, a resident of Kathpora in the Hajin area of Bandipora district.
"On his personal search, incriminating material, arms and ammunition including one pistol, one pistol magazine, seven pistol rounds and two hand grenades were recovered from his possession," he said.
The spokesman said preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was working as a hybrid terrorist linked with the LeT. He was trying to carry out terrorist activities in Baramulla town and adjacent areas.
In Budgam district, security forces busted a terror module of the LeT by arresting three terrorist associates.
They have been identified as Ashiq Hussain Hajam, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Dar and Tahir Bin Ahmed, all residents of Chadoora, the spokesman said.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested trio was involved in facilitating transportation of terrorists, arms/explosive materials and providing logistic support to the active terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT in Budgam district," he said.
Incriminating material, arms and ammunition including one Chinese pistol, two pistol magazines, 22 pistol rounds, one AK magazine and 30 AK rounds have been recovered from their possession, the spokesman said, adding one motorcycle used in terror crimes has also been seized.
Accordingly, a case vide FIR No.114/2022 under relevant sections of law was registered at police station Chadoora and further investigation is in progress, he said.
However, Police on Tuesday attached five residential houses here, which were allegedly used for harbouring terrorists, under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
"Today on 21st June 2022, five residential houses of wilful harbourers of terrorists were attached as per section 2(g) and section 25 of UAP Act," Srinagar police said in a statement.
Police said the houses were attached after it has been proved beyond doubt that these houses were used for purpose of terrorism and the shelter was voluntarily and knowingly given by the member or members of the house.
"Many attacks on civilians, security forces were conspired and planned by terrorists while using these houses as hideouts," the statement said.
While two houses have been attached in jurisdiction of Parimpora police station, one house each was attached under Nowhatta, Pantha Chowk and Zakura police stations.
"Some more such houses have been identified and any wilful harbouring will be dealt with full force of law.
"Citizens are once again requested not to harbour or give shelter to terrorists, failing which we will be forced to take resort to attachment proceedings," the police statement said.
It said in case of any forced or coercive entry by terrorists into any house, the matter should be brought to the notice of police immediately.
