DGPC ELECTION: 70 elected unopposed, elections contested in 40 constituencies in Jammu

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Jun 27: District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees (DGPC) elections- 2022 were held successfully across Jammu and Kashmir UT, today.
In Jammu division, out of total 110 Constituencies, 70 members were elected unopposed, while votes were polled for 40 Constituencies with a turnover of 48.41 percent.
Pertinently, the elections for District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees (DGPC) - 2022 were held as per the schedule notified by the Government through Financial Commissioner Revenue. The polling was scheduled to be held on June 27, 2022 (Monday) from 7 AM to 1 PM through Ballot Boxes. For the purpose, a total 190 constituencies were demarcated across the UT with 80 constituencies in Kashmir division and 110 in Jammu division.
The election notice was issued by the Returning Officers of the respective districts on May 27. The period for filing of nomination papers was fixed from May 28 to June 4 (from 11 AM to 3 PM). Lists of candidates were affixed on the notice boards on the same day, reads the election notification.
The nomination papers were scrutinised on June 7 at 11 AM and the candidates could withdraw their candidature on June 9 upto 3 PM. The symbols to the candidates were allotted on June 10 and the last date for campaigning was June 25.
The counting of votes was started at 2 PM on June 27 on the day of the election itself, unless notified otherwise.
In Jammu Division, the total number of voters for DGPC elections was 142242.
Elections contested in 40 constituencies of Jammu division, 122140 were total voters in these 40 constituencies out of which 59126 voters cast their votes with turnover of 48.41 percent. 70 candidates were elected unopposed in Jammu division.
It is Pertinent to mention here that first time photo electoral rolls were prepared by the administration for this purpose.
The civil administration had made elaborate arrangements for the elections besides the police authorities had also made foolproof security arrangements for the smooth conduct of the elections in the districts.
The elections for District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committees (DGPC) 2022 were successfully and peacefully held today amid sufficient security across 16 constituencies in Srinagar, Baramulla and Pulwama districts of Kashmir Division for which 34 Polling Stations were established.
Out of 40 Candidates in fray 12 candidates were contesting for six Constituencies in Srinagar District, 23 Candidates were contesting for eight Constituencies of Baramulla District and 05 Candidates were contesting for two constituencies of Pulwama District.
The polling commenced from 7:00 AM till 1:00 PM at 34 Polling Stations in these 03 Districts. The total number of eligible electors registered for these sixteen constituencies was 12701. The total number of votes polled during the prescribed time were 6297 with a voting percentage of 49.58%.
The counting of votes was held from 2:00 PM onwards and the results of 16 candidates were declared soon after the counting was finished.
Pertinent to mention here, that there are 80 DGPC Constituencies in Kashmir Division 11 constituencies each for District Srinagar, Budgam, Baramulla, Kupwara, Anantnag, Kulgam and Pulwama, and 02 Constituencies for Shopian District.
Out of these 80 DGPC Constituencies, candidates of 63 constituencies were elected unopposed which include each 11 candidates of District Budgam, Kupwara, Anantnag, Kulgam and 02 of District Shopian, 05 candidates of Srinagar, 03 Candidates of Baramulla and 09 candidates of Pulwama District. Further in Bandipora no nomination paper has been received for one DGPC constituency of the District and in District Ganderbal no DGPC Constituency therefore elections were not held in these two districts.
The Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir who is the Nodal Officer and under whose supervision these elections were held expressed satisfaction on the free and fair, peaceful, transparent and smooth conduct of the elections. He congratulated the winning candidates and hoped that the elected candidates will work for the betterment of respective electorates for next five years.
The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir also thanked the respective Deputy Commissioners, District Election Authorities, Security Agencies and all the officials involved in the smooth conduct of these elections.
