I don’t want to live a life where I cannot empathise with other people’s experiences: Tahira Kashyap

31/01/2023

Writer-director Tahira Kashyap and husband Ayushmann Khurrana’s love for travelling goes beyond the need for a break from the mundane.
The couple finds it liberating, empowering and manage to make time for it with their two children between their hectic schedules.
While referring to their vacation to Amsterdam and Paris last year, Tahira told BT, “Travel is very important for us because it makes us experience life. I don’t want to live a life where I cannot empathise with other people’s experiences and what better than traveling to help you understand that. It expands your heart. You become more compassionate, more understanding and more aware of others’ culture. Reading helps me do that, too. And both help me become a better writer.”
Elaborating on the importance of exploration, she added, “We have always loved travelling. The pandemic phase was tough on us like everyone else so we ensured we made time for a full blown vacation a few months ago before we got back to work. Work does take us places but to travel without an agenda is different. I ate lots of ice creams and salads and I made them all walk. The best way to explore a new place is on foot! They hate me for that (laughs). Also it was good to see that masks are not the new normal. I really hope that the pandemic is truly behind us. I really like to see faces and see the mouths of people moving when they speak.
Expressions can be seen and as human beings we are meant to interact and not be isolated.
This vacation helped us let our guard down after a long time. Meeting strangers, exchanging pleasantries and smiles, warm up your heart.”
