DM Chairs 7th NCORD Committee meeting at Doda

Asks stakeholders to take war against drug abuse to logical end

DODA, Jan 31: District Magistrate Doda, Vishesh Paul Mahajan convened 7th Narco Coordination (NCORD) Committee meeting here in the DC office Doda the other day and discussed the action taken by the designated members on the directions issued in the previous meetings and to formulate the future course of action against the drug abuse in the district.
SSP, Abdul Qayoom, who is also the convener of the Committee, presented the latest report in the district regarding control on drug addiction and drug trafficking. He also presented the agenda of the meeting. SSP informed the Committee that 43 FIRs have been lodged against 52 persons involved in drug peddling/addiction.
"Around 30 persons have been taken into preventive detention, and 2 persons have been booked under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1988. Four licenses of medical stores were cancelled in the district till date, and all the medical shops are under surveillance" he said and added that "Out of the four drug addicts sent to the rehabilitation centre, three have recovered fully and returned home. He further informed that 256 mass level awareness camps were conducted in schools, and other public places in the district under Operation Pathshala and other IEC activities. The DM emphasized on dedicating the year 2023 for eradication of drug abuse from the district. He emphasized on stakeholders to wage the war against drug abuse on a mission mode. It was decided that the farmers/persons, invo-lved in cultivation of Cann-abis/Opium or involved in Drugs peddling or drug addiction, shall be debarred from getting benefits from any of the Government schemes, besides initiating legal action against them.
