BSE Sensex zooms over 300 points; Nifty above 6,750 level

new delhi:The benchmark BSE Sensex extended its early gains and quoted higher by over 300 points in afternoon trade Thursday on strong buying in blue chips.
The 30-share index, which had lost 438 points in the previous three sessions, recovered by 303.11 points, or 1.36 percent, to 22,580.34 after moving in range of 22,312.19 - 22,590.21 with stocks of realty, auto, oil & gas, banking and IT sectors leading the rise.
Similarly, the broader National Stock Exchange Nifty rose by 88.75 points, or 1.33 percent, to 6,764.05.
Among blue chips,Tata Motors gained 3.58 percent, while ICICI Bank was up 3.60 percent.
Buying activity triggered after India's largest IT company Tata Consultancy Services posted a 48.2 percent jump in consolidated net profit to Rs 5,357.6 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2014.
Shares of Tata Consultancy Services rose 1.6 percent to Rs 2,230, while Infosys gained 0.60 percent to Rs 3,175.45.
HCL Technologies too evoked good buying support and gained 1.11 per cent to Rs 1,425 after the company today reported 59 percent increase in net profit at Rs 1,624 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2014.
Among other Asian markets, Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up by 0.72 percent, while Japan's Nikkei shed 0.15 percent today.
The US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended one percent higher in yesterday's trade.
