West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to write book to counter ‘slur’ by Opposition

21/09/2014

Kolkata: West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has decided to write a book to counter the allegations of the high-profile chit-fund scam and other charges that have been levelled against her party and her government.
As per reports in a leading daily, the Trinamool Congress chief will present her side of the story and her arguments against what she calls a conspiracy hatched by her political opponents and a section of the media to defame her and her party.
Mamata has often said that there was a campaign to tarnish the image of her party and her government.
Of late the leaders of the TMC have been facing the heat in the Saradha scam case. Also, Mamata's government in West Bengal have been accused by the Opposition of not doing enough to curb the rising crime against women and lawlessness in university campuses.
The report said that the book will be called 'Kutsa Paksha' or 'The Slur Times' and is likely to be released soon.
On September 14, BJP had alleged that Mamata had benefited the most from the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam, in which thousands of investors were allegedly duped.
"People, who have been arrested (in Saradha chit fund case) are saying that West Bengal CMi benefited the most from the scam," BJP MP from Asansol (West Bengal) Babul Supriyo told reporters, adding, “Those arrested are even divulging the amount of money that Mamataji and (TMC general secretary) Mukul Roy received in this scam," PTI reported.
The Saradha scam had come to light in April 2013 after the group downed shutters without repaying lakhs of investors, who had parked their hard-earned money in the group's companies, lured by the promise of astronomically-high returns. The Supreme Court had later directed the CBI to probe the Saradha scam.
