Sadhotra visits Mendhar took stock of the damages

POONCH, SEPTEMBER 20: To assess the damages caused due to massive landslides and flash floods in Poonch, Minister for Planning & Development and Employment & Labour, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra accompanied by MLC, Devinder Singh Rana, District Development Commissioner, Mohammad Hussain Malik, Senior Superintendent of Police, Shamsheer Hussain Choudhary and district officers of different departments today visited Mendhar and Mankote Tehsils.
At several places Sadhotra interacted with flood affected people and local sarpanches to assess the degree of damages caused in the flash floods and landslides. Local residents and sarpanches projected several demands including transparency in assessment and distribution of relief material, adequate relief package to those whose houses and land have been washed/slid away and compensation for the damaged crops. Local sarpanches and prominent leaders appreciated the proactive role of the district administration in rescuing the people and immediately restoring road connectivity and power and water supply to all the affected areas.
Sadhotra while addressing a gathering at Dak Banglow Mendhar assured the affected people all the help from the government and directed the DDC to expedite the process of relief distribution and ex-gratia to families of persons who have lost their life during incessant rains. He said that the foremost aim of the government is to provide relief to the common man and the government is committed to restore all the affected services and damaged public infrastructure. He asked the people to be patient and assured them every help to overcome this disaster. Sadhotra directed the Deputy Commissioner to ensure identification of deserving families/persons so that government assistance reaches the affected persons.
Sadhotra also visited the Tehsil Complex of the newly created Tehsil of Mankote and directed the officers there to leave no stone unturned in ensuring credible and transparent assessment of the damages to the property of the people and immediate distribution of relief material.
Meanwhile, earlier Sadhotra along with MLC, Devinder Rana,MLA, Haveli, Ajaz Ahmed Jan and officers of the district administration also visited village Qasba of Tehsil Haveli where people demanded immediate relief for the damaged houses and slid away land. Sadhotra also visited several other flood hit spots including Chandak, Kalai, Khanetar and Kanuyian.
