I try not to get affected by rumors: Harshad Chopda

23/10/2014

He started off his showbiz career as a chocolate boy in Mamta, made his mark in 'Left Right Left', won hearts in 'Kis Desh Mein Hai Mera Dil', 'Tere Liye' and 'Dil Se Di Dua... Saubhagyavati Bhava', only to take a two-year sabbatical from soaps.
Harshad Chopda has recently made a comeback as the strong and silent fashion tycoon Sahir in Humsafars. For an actor who by his own admission has "done it all, from a romantic guy to intense characters", the show still feels "like my first show."
Excerpts from a candid chat:
Then and now
It's been a roller-coaster ride for me in showbiz. Just today somebody posted two pictures of me put in the same frame — one was a shot from Left Right Left (LRL) and one was a picture of my current role. I have literally grown up in front of the camera! I had no beard in LRL and was chubby with puppy fat on the cheeks. And look at me now! But that was 10 years ago, of course.
When I decided to become an actor, I was entering an unknown zone. With every show I did, I felt like it would be my last. If you give one good show which clicks with the audience, once the show is over, you are out! But God has been very kind and I have been lucky so far.
Rumors and more
Whenever I read something about me in the newspaper or see it on television, if it is something to do with my professional outings, it is alright. I get very irritated when it is something personal. My first reaction is — ya toh main unhe gaadh du ya khud dafan ho jaun! But then I take a deep breath and relax. I try not to get affected by rumors, as this is part of our profession.
Once there was something written about me which I hadn't read and when my dad asked me what it was all that about I didn't know what to say to him...
Movies and more
A lot of actors are doing films now, but the medium is not important to me. It all depends on the kind of characters I get to play. I don't want to do an episodic. I want my character to be well defined.
Fitness fundas
I am a fitness freak. Working out for me is worship. Even if I wake up at 2-3 am I start working out. When I'm not working or gymming, you'll find me sleeping with all my alarms switched off!
