By now, most of the major casting decisions of KamaleswarMukherjee's mega project, Mahabharat, are out. So we know that Dev will be Arjun, ProsenjitChatterjee is playing Bhishma and ParambrataChatterjee will be seen as Krishna. The one closely guarded secret was the casting of Draupadi. CT has now got the scoop that the prized role has been bagged by the hottie NusratJahan.
This pivotal role will mark Nusrat's next step from commercial, masala films, just like Srabanti and Subhashree before her. Nusrat started out in Raj Chakrabarty's potboiler flick Shotru and has done Khoka 420 and Khiladi after that.
We heard that Nusrat has already taken her look test for the role. A source close to the production house said, "The producers and the director were looking for someone gorgeous yet dignified — basically someone with a great personality. The character is someone who takes care of the family business but aspires to be an actress. Nusrat was confirmed for Draupadi after an hour-long look test, though she herself doesn't know which role she has auditioned for."
KamaleswarMukherjee said that Nusrat was being "considered" for the role of Zubeida, which is the name of Draupadi's analogous character. "Nusrat definitely has the personality to play Zubeida. But we are yet to take the final call. If she is on board, we will need to do quite a few rehearsals for her to get into character. In the film, Zubeida is a fashion diva of the '90s, who used to be a model. She is gorgeous, slightly dusky and has a lot of oomph. She's also very independent and revengeful. Zubeida meets Sohrab (Dev) in a pub and they eventually fall in love and get married," he informed.
When we asked Nusrat how excited she was about the prized role, all she could say was: "That I am playing Draupadi is itself news to me!" ShrikantMohta of ShreeVenkateshMohta of ShreeVenkatesh Films said, "Let the right time come and we will announce who'll play Draupadi."
