Jammu, Apr 24: The civil secretariat and other offices of the State Government closed in the winter capital city today and would now re-open in the summer capital city of Srinagar on May 5 as part of over a century old practice of “Darbar Move”.
After remaining operational in Jammu for nearly six months, the offices of the civil secretariat and other State Government offices closed today to reopen in Srinagar in May.
The Government has hired more than 100 vehicles including busses and trucks to move official records and staff to Kashmir from Jammu.
In view of the ‘Darbar Move’ the traffic department has decided to allow only one way traffic on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway for April 25 and 26 so as to provide smooth passage to the Kashmir bound vehicles of the ‘Darbar’.
“No Jammu bound vehicle will be allowed to ply on the Jammu Srinagar highway on April 25 and 26 not even the military convoys in view of the Darbar move” an official said.
State chief secretary Iqbal Khandey has directed putting in place all necessary measures to ensure smooth movement of the “officials and official records”.
“Sufficient number of cranes, mobile workshops besides mobile medical teams and ambulances should be provided all along the national highway during these transit days” he said.
The Jammu and Kashmir Police have made arrangements for security escort to accompany the convoys carrying employees’ official record.
