Abhinav theatre to be opened for public soon: Priya Sethi

JAMMU, JULY 3- Underscoring on early completion of renovation works of the prestigious Abhinav theatre, Minister of State for Education, Culture and Information Priya Sethi said the theatre is one of the key destinations for art lovers and literary activities in the Jammu city. She said the repair and renovation works would be expedited and very soon the theatre would be open to public. "We are committed to revive activities of art and culture in the state and both Tagore and Abhinav theatres would be developed on most modern lines," she stressed.
Priya said this while reviewing activities of the J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, here on Thursday.
She also reviewed the progress of renovation works underway in the Abhinav theatre complex.
Secretary J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages Dr. Abdul Aziz Parray, Writers, Academicians, officers and staff of the Academy were present on the occasion.
The Minister directed the Academy to prepare and submit status report on the works underway in the Abhinav theatre. She said necessary funding would be arranged so that the works get completed at the earliest and the theatre is made functional.
"Now that the new Secretary has joined we hope that the Academy would revive its activities and very soon art and literature would get a boost in the state," she added.
She said the routine functions of the Academy with regard to recognising and promoting writers, artists and art forms of the state would be revived. Various committees and sub-committees would be formulated to advise the academy on matters of art, culture and language in the state, she added.
Priya called upon the Academy Secretary to prepare a Vision document for the Academy and directed for computerisation of the library and documentation of books and old records.
She said regional Language Drama festivals should be organised and cultural exchange programmes should be started within the state as well as with other states also.
The Minister said very soon a thorough review of the activities of the Academy in Kashmir would be taken and appropriate steps would be initiated to strengthen the Academy.
