03/08/2015

New Delhi: Independent MP Rajeev Chandrashekhar has pitched for setting up of a memorial for former President A P J Abdul Kalam at the place where he was laid to rest in Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu to highlight what he exemplified in his lifetime.
The member of Rajya Sabha has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, making the recommendation.
"I write to you with a widely felt request that a memorial for late President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam be constructed at Rameshwaram, at the location where his mortal remains are buried," he wrote.
"This should be a national memorial that commemorates the values that President Kalam has exemplified in his lifetime," Chandrashekhar said.
He added that the memorial should include a statue of Kalam, with his quote, 'Take an oath today - my national flag shall always fly in my heart and I will bring glory to my nation' or any other suitable quote that is attributable to him.
