I don’t pine for roles that others have done: Kay Kay Menon

29/06/2016

Kay Kay Menon is one of those rare actors who have tried their hand at every medium television, theatre and film. In the Hindi film industry, he has worked with film-makers such as Anurag Kashyap and Vishal Bhardwaj. But sometimes, some film-makers, even those who are Kay Kay’s good friends, give meaty roles to his contemporaries. But the Life in a... Metro (2007) star doesn’t consider that an issue. “That doesn’t bother me now,” he says. “If someone else has already been approached for a movie, then it is history.”
The actor says, “People ask me, ‘What is the one role from a film in the past 10 years that you’d like to do?’ I say none, because [that movie has already been] done. For me, there’s no pining. I enjoy what I do. If I don’t enjoy my films, I will tell that to the person concerned.”
Before turning to B-Town, Kay Kay carved a niche for himself in the television industry, with shows such as Star Bestsellers and Pradhanmantri. Would he be open to revisiting the small screen again? “Television is fantastic. It is a medium that you can explore for a long duration with regards to a particular story. There lies the opportunity,” he says.
Kay Kay, however, insists that today, television is being “misused”.
“I come from an era in which TV was used very well. But the people who are doing television today should be more responsible; they should know what the medium can give them.
They shouldn’t waste the opportunity,” says the actor.
