NMU holds protest

Jammu, Jun 21: The construction workers of Jammu & Kashmir working in organize and unorganized sectors held one say protest demonstration at press club Jammu against non-effective functioning of the J&K Building and other Construction Workers Welfare Board and in favour of their long pending demands such as proper implementation of All India Building and other Construction Workers Act, Enroll of all the Construction Workers, Brick kin workers, quarry workers, and stone Crushing Workers in state welfare Board, Increase the existing welfare benefits substantially, No diversion of board funds to other purpose, providing pension benefits, enhancement of marriage assistance to 51000/-, Minimum wages for unskilled workers Rs. 18000/-, Registration of worker within a week, early disposal of all claims to beneficiaries.
While speaking on the occasion Om Parkash, General Secretary, State committee of CITU concerning about functioning of the Board said that Labour Minister/Chairman is non serious towards the welfare schemes of the poor workers and rarely found time to preside over the board meetings,
consequently meetings of board are not held regularly affecting the functioning of welfare of the workers.
Sham Parsaa Kesar, Sr. leader of CITU said that workers are deprived of their legitimate benefits and there is a rampant corruption in the board as a result no timely registration, no timely claims are paid to the beneficiary and unapproachable proper formalities for registration etc. Romesh Chand, General Secretary of union said that the fact of the matter was that while the Boards were set up for providing immediate assistance to the construction workers, yet we were still debating about who all should under the Act as building worker.
