Fairoz takes oath as National President of NSUI

New Delhi, June 23: Days after being appointed as the new National President of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI), Jammu and Kashmir's Fairoz Khan has taken charge as the National President on June 22. Earlier on June 12, the Congress party finalised his name to lead the party's student wing nationally.
Fairoz went through a personal interview, as one of the shortlisted candidates, with Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi who later recommended his appointment.
A screening committee was formed by Rahul Gandhi to shortlist the deserving candidates for the post of National President of all-India NSUI.
After which he personally interviewed the shortlisted candidates. Later, he discussed and consulted with the other members of the committee and took the decision of appointing Fairoz Khan as the National President of NSUI.
Earlier, AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi had released a statement saying,"Congress President Sonia Gandhi has approved the appointment of Fairoz Khan as NSUI President for a period of two years with immediate effect."
While speaking to the media following his appointment, Fairoz said, "I come from a family which has no political background. My father works as a junior engineer in public health engineering department and my mother is a housewife,"
28-years-old Fairoz Khan completed BSc from Bhaderwah Degree College and later, entered the field of politics. He studied law at Jammu University in 2012 and did his masters in political science. Currently, he is pursuing post graduate diploma in human rights and duties education from Jammu University's law school.
On June 22, as soon as Fairoz took charge, a number of people clearly delighted over his appointment took to social media to congratulate him and gave their best wishes to the new student union president for his tenure. He remained NSUI national general secretary for four years from 2012. He was also the first elected national delegate of the NSUI from Jammu & Kashmir.
It is pertinent to mention here that Khan and his team laid the foundation of the NSUI in Kashmir as well as Ladakh regions of the state. After becoming National Secretary, he remained in-charge for most of the states including Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Telengana and Andhra Pradesh. He has worked in DUSU elections, student union elections as well as various state assembly elections. He also worked to open the mobile schools for the students of the erstwhile Doda district (Doda, Ramban and Kishtwar). Khan has expressed the need to open a university campus in Chenab valley at various forums.
