Two-day ‘Cartooning Workshop’ concludes at JU

Jammu, Aug 11: Two-day 'Cartooning Workshop' organized by Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu concluded here today at the Seminar Hall of Brig. Rajinder Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu. The workshop was organized to acquaint the students with the niceties of Cartooning and make it beneficial for them in the artistic pursuits. The students of University of Jammu and affiliated Degree Colleges participated in the workshop which was conducted by eminent Cartoonists of the State, Mr. Manoj Chopra and Mr. Chander Shekhar.
Around 20 students from different teaching departments and colleges participated in this workshop in which their skills of fine-arts were chiseled by the experts in the field. They were introduced to the basics of the art of Cartooning. Role and Importance of a Cartoonist in the Society was also explained to them.
While informing about the programme, Prof. Satnam Kour, Dean Students Welfare, University of Jammu informed that in this academic session, the Department of Students Welfare has planned a series of activities and workshops for the students in different fields such as theatre, music, dance, fine-arts, literature by the experts of the respective fields so that the students pursue these activities with more professional aptitude and they feel more equipped when they represent their institute at Zonal and National level.
Introducing the resource persons, Prof. S.K. Pandita, Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee informed that both have brought laurels for the State at National and International Levels. Mr. Manoj Chopra is in this field from the last 21 years and has worked with the leading Newspapers. He has published more than 20,000 cartoons till date. Besides cartooning, he has passion for paintings and participated in number of group shows and art camps.
He has delivered various lectures and conducted workshops on art of cartoon making in different parts of India. His works were selected in many countries of the world in prestigious cartoons events, He is also a recipient of Lalit Kala Scholarship and Junior Fellowship from Govt. of India and Mr. Chander Shekhar has to his credit exemplary participation in innumerable prestigious exhibitions including the 100th year of Charlie Chaplin and Maya Kamath cartoon exhibition where his works received great appreciation especially for his unique style of depicting most serious situations with a terrific blend of wit and satire, he is also associated with many Newspapers and Magazines and has been awarded at various National platforms.
Prof. Kamal K. Kapoor, Co- Chairman, Campus Cultural Committee and Dr. A.R. Manhas, Assistant Dean, SW were also present at the occasion. Those who attended the workshop included Bharti Heer, Mohinder Kumar, Aman Kanathia, Shivansh, Vishal Mehra, Parul Oberoi, Zubiksha Thakur, Megavika, Neha Gupta, Niharika Sharma, Manik Aggarwal, Janardan Singh, Diksha Andotra, Muzafar Bhat, Maninderjeet Singh, Shriya Bhau, Shivangi Gupta, Vijay Kumar and Gurpreet Kour. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Sumeet Sharma.
