Various Career Options in Sanskrit: Prof Ghai

Jammu Oct 13: The Career Counselling Cell (Employment Information Cum Advisory Bureau), Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu organised a counselling programme in Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu here today.
Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai, an internationally acclaimed Sanskrit Scholar and former Dean Faculty of Arts, University of Jammu and Prof. Ram Pratap, former HOD, Department of Sanskrit were the special resource persons. Prof. Ramnika Jalali, former head, Dr. Kavita Suri, Director, DLL, Prof. Sushma Devi, Prof. Ram Nath Shukla, Dr. Satpriya Arya, all faculty members of the department and Dr. Rewa Khajuria, Counsellor, EIAB, DLL were present in the inaugural. The programme was organised under the supervision of Prof. Kedar Nath Sharma, Head, Department of Sanskrit, University of Jammu.
Prof. Ramnika Jalai, while welcoming the guests said that it is a matter of pride to welcome such great personalities in the department and also advised the students to take the maximum benefit of that.
She also spoke about guru-shisha parampara which most of the students are forgetting these days.
Dr. Kavita Suri said that this is the second counselling programme in this department and thanked the department for taking an initiative to organise such programmes for the students so that they know about the various career options available for them.
Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai said that Sanskrit is the basis of all the major Indian languages in India. A course in Sanskrit has much scope in yoga, Vedas, vastu shastra, astrology, ayurveda and many other related fields. She also said that it is about tracing and exploring the connection between various areas and Sanskrit. Prof. Ram Pratap in his presentation said that after India, Germany is the second home of Sanskrit as there are many scholars in that country. There are even radio broadcasts in Sanskrit. Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Sushma Devi. The programme was conducted by Dr. Shukla and co-ordinated by Dr. Rewa Khajuria. About 57 P.G. students, M.Phil and Ph.D scholars attended the programme.
