SRS appeals SC to lift ban on sale of firecrackers

JAMMU, Oct 14: Shri Ram Sena Jammu Kashmir has expressed dismay over the heavy loss suffered by the firecrackers business fraternity in Delhi- NCR due to abrupt ban on sale of crackers by Supreme Court of India just 12 days before the festival of Diwali, while all the stocks are maintained atleast 2 month before the festival. Sena appeals Supreme Court to implement ban from next year instead of this year in the interest of business community.
Addressing a press conference here today, Shri Ram Sena JK state president Rajiv Mahajan said that the short notice ban on sale of firecrackers is unjustified. He said the stockiest and wholesalers will die sudden death as amount in crores is invested in the business. Almost all businessmen procure money from banks on high interest rates and by banning their business is not less than a death warrant to them. Stockiest in Delhi-NCR have firecrackers worth hundreds of crores stocked up and are unable to sell.
Mahajan admits that ban on fireworks may be a good decision and welcomed by a majority of population, but short-term notice does not satisfy the formula of justice. He said Diwali pollution remains only for a week, but the vehicle pollution continues for whole the year and there is no check and practical system to contain it.
Mahajan further said that Supreme Court 5 years ago had also banned use of load speakers in mosques, temples and other religious places emitting noise pollution, but the system is on and there is no check on noise pollution emitted from these places. He appealed the SC to implement noise pollution law in letter and spirit.
Mahajan appealed the SC to lift ban on sale of crackers this year to save the business community from going into unbearable loss and implement it from next year otherwise a number of businessmen will commit suicide because they will be able to pay back their loans and they will have no any other option but to commit suicide.
