Health Dept clarifies allegation of ‘undue charges’

RAJOURI Oct 15: Medical Superintendent District Hospital Rajouri Dr Mehmood Hussain Bajjar today issued a clarification regarding the allegations of charging Rs 2700 by ambulance driver while shifting border shelling injured from the DH Rajouri to GMC&H Jammu.
In a written communication, the girl was critically injured yesterday in cross border shelling in Mendhar and was rushed to District Hospital Rajouri and later shifted to GMC & H Jammu for further treatment.
He said that for cases under Janani Shishu Suraksha Yojana, there is provision of free transport for shifting a patient to Jammu for treatment. In all other cases, the family of the patient has to bear the shifting charges.
He informed that the State Health Transport Authority while taking into account the mileage of ambulances has fixed Rs 2700 as shifting charges from Rajouri to Jammu.
He further informed that in the said case, ambulance driver charged from the family Rs 2700 as shifting charges, as per the established norms and nothing has been done in contravention of any guidelines.
Pertinently, soon after the reports of said allegations appeared in some sections of social media, the Deputy Commissioner Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary directed the Additional DDC to enquire into the matter.
