NAGROTA, Oct 15: Seeking coordinated effort in the execution of post-monsoon restoration works, National Conference Provincial President Mr Devender Singh Rana on Sunday said mobility and essential utility services like power and drinking water should get prioritized attention. “Monsoons have created havoc with road connectivity and potholes were posing grave threat to both commuters and pedestrians”, he said while launching mecada mization work in Waliabad, Chak Rakwala and Asrarabad in Nagrota Assembly Constituency.
He said dependable roads hold key to progress of any area and this fact should not be ignored while formulating developmental schemes. He suggested revival of 'gang-coolie' type mechanism, of the yesteryears, modified as per present needs, for upkeep of roads, saying apart from keeping roads pliable even in worst conditions, the chances of accidents also get reduced. He stressed the need for maintaining quality control for the interest of longevity of roads.
The MLA Nagrota also took stock of various works currently under execution across the constituency. He stressed the need for regulating power and drinking water supply, ensuring adequate supplies of rations on sale-outlets besides regular flow of water for irrigational purposes in the Constituency and hoped that the concerned departments will put in their best to minimize the problems of people. Getting update of various schemes and programmes, the MLA exhorted the officers to strive for translating these into reality. He said delays in execution generally negate the purpose of the projects and therefore maintaining the deadlines and targets should be priority for the line departments. He said peoples' support in Nagrota has always been forthcoming in taking forward the development agenda.
"Onus lies on the departments concerned to seek maximum feedback from the people, which will help in further improving the projects under execution", he maintained.
Mr Rana hoped continuity in developmental process, hoping that Nagrota constituency will get special dispensation in view of its proximity with the capital city, huge potential in various spheres of economic activity and its strategic location on Srinagar-Jammu National Highway. "Holistic development of the constituency should be a collective effort of all the developmental agencies", he said and called for involving people at all levels in prioritizing basic level schemes as per needs of the areas. “Being a rural oriented constituency, the rural development department has a pivotal role to play", he said while reviewing the status of various programmes in the constituency.
