Excise Department recovers tax of Rs 26 Crores from Liquor traders, crores yet to be recovered

TWENTY LIQUOR LICENSES SUSPENDED

JAMMU, Oct 16: Twenty Liquor shops in Jammu / Establishments stand closed w.e.f Oct 15th since Tax as these license holders had not deposited their dues by 15th October, 2007 an order dated 3-10-2017 directs.
The recovery Circular was issued by Excise Commissioner Mr. M. Javed Khan , IAS Excise Commissioner J&K Government. The extract of the circular reads as follows:-
“Subject : Additional Assessment fee on sale of IMFL / Beer / RTD/ JK Special Whisky under SRO 381 dated 13.09.2017
Circular
Pursuant to issuance of SRO 381 dated 13.09.2017, all the licensees of the Excise Department are directed to deposit all taxes due upto 30.09.2017 latest by 5: 00 P.M on 10.10.2017. Under no circumstances the date will be extended . The Licenses shall deposit additional assessment fee by or before 10th of every month.
In case of failure of deposit of taxes by due date, the license would be deemed to have been suspended.
All licenses are also directed to bring a "No Dues outstanding" certificate from Commercial Taxes Department and deposit the same to Excise Department by 15.10.2017 , failing which the license shall be deemed to have been suspended.

By the extended circular the Excise Department could recover about Rs 26 crores from different Establishments w.e.f 3-10-2017 but still several crores recoveries still remain to be recovered from big houses and liquor traders as per the said circular. The establishments which despite the said circular did not pay Tax till 15th October, 2017 these establishment stand closed as their licenses stand automatically suspended, therefore no fresh sale w.e.f 15th Oct is permissible .
The 20 Establishments are at Bhamala which has to pay about Rs One and half Crore tax likewise one Bishnah's establishment to pay tax Rs 70 lakh and in total there are 20 such establishments which stands closed.

JOURNEYLINE spoke to the Deputy Excise Commissioner to verify the fact and Deputy Commissioner admitted that liquor shops uploaded website to this fact. However he conceded that Journey Line verification is correct. Deputy Excise Commissioner Mr. Murid Shah ensured that from website of Defaulters today will be up dated and loaded with the complete information and names of 20th Establishments stands closed today.
