DB directives in PIL highlighting poor working of SPCB

JAMMU, Nov 10: In a Public Interest Litigation filed by Adv Rajinder Singh Jamwal highlighted the poor working of State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) especially there is hardly any arrangement for testing the quality of air. The petition pointed out that in the absence of pollution check at government laboratory level most of the industrial units have seek help from private laboratories for getting the sample tested which is in violation of law because no authenticity has been attached to these reports.
A Division Bench of State High Court Comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Kumar after hearing Adv Rajinder Singh Jamwal appearing for the PIL directed all senior officers of departments JMC, PHE, UEED, PCB, Traffic, ERA and so many other shall be present on next date of hearing.
Division Bench also directed Scientific officer of State Pollution Control Board shall also present on next date of hearing.
Earlier when the PIL came-up for hearing, Division Bench observed thatthe all the respodents shall come preapred with the responses with regard to ambient air quality, the water quality of river tawi, setting-up of STPs and their effective funcytioning, solid waste disposal scheme/ plan and the plan for tarffic for reducing vehicular congestions/ vehicular pollution and a report on brick kils as also on issue of crop burning should be made available before the next date of hearing.
