Katoch reviews functioning of LMD

JAMMU, Dec 7: Controller, Legal Metrology Department, R.K. Katoch today reviewed the functioning and achievement of Revenue and Composition targets fixed for Jammu Division by the department in an officers meeting here today.
The concerned officers apprised the meeting a total of Rs.11743941 have been realized up to November, 2017 which included Rs.8322791 as verification fee from Weighing and Measuring Instruments and Rs. 3421150 as composition from defaulters. A total of 2060 cases have been registered so far this year while as a total of 213 cases stand compounded by field functionaries.
The Controller was apprised that about 12000 inspections have been carried out by the department in safeguarding the interests of the consumers against malpractices adopted by unscrupulous traders. The Controller directed the Assistant Controllers (ACs) to redouble their efforts for effective implementation of all provisions of Legal Metrology laws in letter and spirit to protect the rights of consumers. He directed all field officers to redress all consumer complaints on priority basis and
maintain proper records.
The Controller stressed upon the officers to organize consumer awareness programs on regular basis particularly in schools so that the masses can be made aware about their rights and duties as consumers. The officers were directed to conduct in-situ camps at far flung areas so as to provide the facility of Verification and certification to the trader community at their door steps.
