Madhurima Tuli admits she could have avoided doing Hamari Adhuri Kahaani and waited for something better

14/02/2018

Actor Madhurima Tuli started her career in Bollywood with Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008), starring Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone. She followed it up with films such as Toss (2009), Kaalo (2010), and Warning (2013). It was really in 2015, with the Akshay Kumar-starrer spy thriller, Baby, that she got noticed, according to Madhurima.
“You need to be in films starring big actors to get recognised. Those films give you that kind of exposure,” says the actor, who is currently a part of the TV?show, Chandrakanta.
Madhurima adds that she could have avoided doing some of the films she did, such as Hamari Adhuri Kahaani, released in the same year as Baby. “(Director) Mohit Suri really liked my work. He was really happy. But the character was so small, and the film also didn’t do well [at the box office]. So, it didn’t really add anything to my career. I could have avoided doing that film. After Baby, I should have waited for something better to come up. [But] sometimes, you just have to do it for friends.”
Asked if the lack of screen time is a concern for her, Madhurima says, “Yes, it does affect you. So, you have to be very careful with what you do and what you don’t. Even if it’s a small role, the character has to be very interesting, irrespective of whether it’s a film or a TV show it has to bring some change in the film to get [you] noticed.”
Meanwhile, though Madhurima wants to concentrate on her ongoing TV show, going forward, she’d like to do more films, including biopics, and also wants to try her hand at web series, if good offers come her way. “I love biographies. They help you grow in life. It would be wonderful to play somebody who motivates and inspires many,” she says.
