DB directives in PIL regarding drug abuse in J&K

JAMMU, Mar 7: In a Public Interest Litigation filed by Arthav Mahajan a student of law seeking initiation of a special drive by J&K police in the entire state for checking the growing menace of drugs amongst youths and a PIL rgarding Low conviction in NDPS Case.
A Division Bench of State High Court Comprising Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed and Justice Sanjeev Kumar after hearing Adv Deepika Mahajan for the PIL whereas AAG Ravinder Gupta for the state, directed to file status report, indicating the progress made, specifically in terms of the special teams which have been constituted. DB further directed that a status report shall also be submitted with regard to the measures undertaken by the Education Department for educating the students in Schools and Colleges, with regard to the ill effects of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and how they should resist the temptation to become victims of this menace. A status report shall also be filed with regard to the measures undertaken by the Social Welfare Depart ment and the Health Department, for establishing de-addiction-cum- rehabilitation centres, both under the Govern ment patronage as also in coordination with NGOs. DB also directed counsel appearing for the Narcotic Control Bureau shall also file a status report with regard to the steps it has taken in connection with control of Narcotics within the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Mrs. Sindhu Sharma, ASGI, be informed that she has to enter appearance on behalf of the said Bureau and file the status report.
DB further seeks whether there are any de-addiction centres within the Jail premises in the State of J&K and, if so, what are the working results of the same. JNF
