Chairperson State Women Commission organizes legal awareness camp at Poonch

POONCH, Apr 19: Jammu and Kashmir State Commission for Women (SCW), Chairperson Nayeema Mehjoor convened a legal awareness camp, here today. The programme was organized in collaboration with National Commission for Women (NCW) New Delhi.
The program highlighted various aspects of women rights and legislations for the safety and security besides flagship programmes like BBBP meant for the upbringing of girl children, their education and over all environment for grooming of girls also remained focus of the program.
ADC Dr. Basharat Hussain, District Social Welfare Officer Naiema Bhatti, Child Development Project Officers from six projects of district besides other concerned were present in the function. Girl students from Degree college Poonch and other educational institutions participated in the event. On the occasion, speakers threw light on women centric and women friendly legislations including prohibition of domestic violence and harassment of women at work places and said that these acts are in the constitution for safeguarding women's rights.
While referring to women's contribution in building society, the speakers said women should not be treated as weak gender of the society as they constitute almost half population of the country.
Focusing on the issues confronting women, Nayeema Mehjoor said that dowry-related violence, domestic violence, child abuse, eve teasing are manifestations of various forms of social evils because of which a woman suffers immensely. She further termed awareness as a necessary tool to safeguard rights of women and stressed upon the concerned to make coordinated efforts for the mass awareness in the society.
