I never manipulated my career: Delnaz Irani

22/08/2018

Delnaz Irani considers herself a director’s actor. The actor will be seen in Milind Ukey’s Monsoon Football. This film will mark her debut in the Marathi film industry and Delnaz credits the script for her choice.
“The script as a whole appealed to me. The one scene of women playing football in a sari really intrigued me.
But football is just the backdrop of the film. It focuses on issues of women liberation, how middle class women get out of their comfort zone,” says Delnaz.
The Kal Ho Na Ho (2003) actor adds that this is her first commercial regional film. “Milindji is a renowned director and I admired his vision and clarity. He was very sure of what he wanted.
As an actor it is important to be confident about your director, to give your best. We started the shoot with my scenes and he said, ‘I wanted to start out with positivity and hence we chose you’. This is the best compliment an actor can ever receive,” she says.
Delnaz is currently busy with her play, Wrong Number, and a comedy show on TV. “I have never left theatre and have been a part of it since I was 17. I have always shuffled and arranged my time in a way that I can do television, films and plays in a year. I have been fortunate that way.
Having said that, I have never felt the need to manipulate or plan my career. I have let things go by the flow,” says Delnaz.
She adds that she is not too ambitious, however, she respects her work and takes up whatever worthy comes her way. “Work is priority, however, I won’t do it for the sake of it. I have to really feel great about it to take it up.
Having said that, I won’t reject work because I want to take a break. If all actors follow this motto, no one will be out of work.”
