KVK Poonch distributes soil health cards

JAMMU, Dec 5: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Poonch, under the patronage of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu, in collaboration with Department of Agriculture, Poonch celebrated World Soil Day today at KVK campus in a befitting manner.
The day has been celebrated all over the world to connect farmer with soils and raise awareness on their critical importance in our lives.
The celebration was attended by more than 100 farmers and 25 Officers from Line Department from every nook and corner of the district. Dr. Ajay Gupta , Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Poonch explained the importance of celebration of 'World Soil Day as soils provide plants with essential minerals and nutrients. The individuals across the globe are celebrating World Soil Day to recognize how healthy soils are vital for the future of the food system and a sustainable planet, he said. He stated that healthy soils are important for food and nutritional security and for a healthy life.
Mahesh Verma, Senior Soil Analyst elaborated various technologies for sustainable soil health and water management. He highlighted the importance of well rotten FYM in maintaining soil fertility and balance fertilization for improving soil health. During the programme, pamphlets on Soil Health Management and Soil Testing were distributed to the farmers which contain important information regarding availability of major and minor nutrients and importance of soil testing in regional languages. Speaking on the occasion, Ramneek Singh and Jasmeet Singh, officers of Agriculture Department advised the farmers to go for soil testing so as to get maximum productivity and profitability from farming. A Kissan Ghoshti was also organised and scientists and officers replied to various queries raised by the farmers. Sh. Mohd Qasim, Prog Assistant (Computers) presented the vote of thanks.
