Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba celebrates World Soil Day

SAMBA, Dec 5 : Krishi Vigyan Kendra Samba celebrated World Soil Day 2018 on 5th of December at KVK Samba SKUAST-Jammu with the theme of Sustainable Agriculture. The day was celebrated in association with the Department of Agriculture and Horticulture, Samba in which more than 70 farmers, and field officers of development departments participated. The programme was organised under the aegis of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof P.K Sharma and under the guidance of Dr R K Arora, Associate Director Extension (KVKs).
Dr. Vinod Gupta, I/c Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Samba addressing the farmers, he asked the officers to regularly organize awareness programmes for the farming community at village level for balanced use of fertilizers to increase productivity and soil health. He said the coalition government in the State is committed to uplift the socio-economic condition of the farmers and various steps have already been taken in this regard. Speaking on the occasion, he also highlighted the policies of State as well as Central Government being implemented for the overall welfare and benefit of the farming community. He said that farmer is the practical scientist and continuously strives to maximize the production. He also stressed the need for adopting innovative techniques to increase the agriculture production in the Samba district. He emphasized that soil testing provides a field-specific report of soil fertility status and other important soil parameters that affect crop productivity.
Initially Dr Sanjay Khajuria, SMS, KVK Samba in his welcome address emphasised the importance of soil in agricultural productivity and expressed concern over the rising soil erosion in the district. He stressed upon that farmers should use organic farming techniques to promote soil health. Dr. Balbir Dotra, Soil Scientist, SKUAST-J and Mrs. Shalini Khajuria, KVK Samba delivered lectures on this occasion.
