Congress condemns arrest of CPIM Secretary

JAMMU, APRIL 18: Congress has strongly condemned the arrest of CPIM Secretary of district Kathua Mr. Seva Ram after he complained about malfunctioning of EVM machine at polling station number 104/65 Kathua today, besides party has seeken re-polling at least two polling stations Hiranagar and Gool where the voting machines only press the button of Lotus (BJP). In a statement Chief Spokesperson JKPCC Shri Ravinder Sharma has strongly condemned the arrest and detention of Mr. Seva Ram when he complained about the malfunctioning of voting machine, as he pressed the button of 'Hand' symbol but the vote was casted in favour of 'Lotus' (BJP). Mr. Seva Ram was arrested and detained in police station.
Mr. Sharma while demanding the high level enquiry in the matter, sought a strict action against those responsible for the illegal detention of Mr. Seva Ram. Meanwhile re-polling sought at least on two polling stations 113-Hiranagar and 88-Chajroo Gulabgarh assembly segments.
He said it was confirmed that whatever button was pressed the vote was recorded in BJP symbol and on being noticed by the voters as well as polling staff there were protests by the people.
At Polling Booth No.88 Shajroo-3, it was noticed that voters casted their votes in favour of Congress Candidate, were actually being casted in favour of BJP, as shown on EVM Machine.
The matter was referred to officials who replaced the machine, but around 450 people who had already casted votes had left the polling booth. view of this situation the party candidate has written Election Commission for ordering re-poll at least on these polling stations so far.
