Cattle Pound on 97 Kanals Land At Nagrota

Rs.5.00 crores allocated by JMC for first phase of cattle pound

Jammu, JULY 8: In a much publicized Public Interest Litigation filed by an NGO SAVE (Save Animals Value Environment) through its Chairperson Devinder Kaur Madaan alias Rumpy Madaan, Advocate Sachin Gupta appearing for Jammu Municipal Corporation produced an order dated July, 3, 2019 issued by Commissioner, JMC pursuant to the directions passed by the Division Bench on July, 3, 2019, wherein the Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation has allocated Rs.5.00 crores exclusively for the purpose of construction of cattle pound (first phase) and the same will be immediately released as and when required. In the order passed by Commissioner JMC it is further mentioned that rest of the amount i.e. Rs.5.00 crores shall be appropriated from the next installments of 14th Finance Commission expected to be released by the Housing and Urban Development Department J&K Government shortly.
After going through the aforesaid order, the Division Bench comprising First Puisne Judge Rajesh Bindal and Justice Sindhu Sharma in the open court appreciated the seriousness of the JMC for taking the project seriously and observed, "The aforesaid order passed by the Corporation shows that the Corporation wants to proceed with the project taking it seriously".
Dr. Zafar Iqbal Municipal Veterinary Officer, JMC produced before the Division Bench the tentative plan for development of the area and the Division Bench in the open court perused the same.
Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed with Advocate Supriya Chouhan appearing for the petitioner made certain suggestions for the construction of a modern and sustainable cattle pound on the pattern of modern 'Goushalas' working in Gurgaon, Karnal, Ludhiana and Haridwar.
The Division Bench after going through the tentative plan directed the JMC to finalize the same and also directed the JMC to calculate the total cost of the project and further issued the directions that the necessary approval for the project be obtained from the competent authority before the next date of hearing.
Deputy Advocate General Ayjaz Lone appeared on behalf of the Forest Department. JNF
