Training programme on Plant Tissue Culture begins at SKUAST-Jammu

JAMMU, NOV 19: A five day training programme on "Plant Tissue Culture Techniques in Quality Planting Material Production" organized by SAMETI, Directorate of Extension in collaboration with School of Biotechnology, SKUAST-Jammu is being conducted at SKUAST-Jammu. Prof. K.S. Risam, Vice Chancellor, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu inaugurated the training programme. The training is being attended by the officials from different line departments of Agriculture, Horticulture and Floriculture.
While inaugurating the training programme, Prof. Risam highlighted the importance of quality plant material in agriculture and emphasized the role of biotechnology that has potential to produce large number of disease free and quality planting material of high value crops. He lauded the role of plant tissue culture in enhancing production, productivity and quality of crops. He also highlighted that the major objective of the training programme is to provide hands-on training to the technocrats for generating quality planting material. The trainees will be updated with latest plant tissue culture techniques and their applications in agricultural and horticultural crops.
The course content of the training has been designed as per the requirements of the line departments.
The trainees will be elaborated on the step wise demonstration for establishment of cultures of different crops viz., potato, saffron, citrus, brahmi, chrysanthemum, banana, strawberry, flowering and ornamental crops. The inaugural session was also attended by Prof R. K. Salgotra (Coordinator, School of Biotechnology, SKUAST-Jammu), Dr. Ramakant Sharma (Dy. Director, SAMETI-J), Puja Nayyar (Dy. Director, SAMETI-J) and faculty members of School of Biotechnology, SKUAST-Jammu.
