Dir I&C &RUDA organises orientation programme on Plastic Waste Management

JAMMU, DEC5: An orientation programme on "Plastic Waste Management" was organized by the Director of Industries and Commerce Department Jammu Anoo Malhotra at the conference hall of Jawahar Lal Nehru Udhyog Bhawan, Bahu Plaza (Jammu).Leading industrialists of the Jammu district primarily dealing with plastic items were sensitized about the role of UNDP in plastic waste management. During the programme, a detailed presentation on UNDP project "Plastic Waste Management Programme" in Jammu region was given by Sanjeev Arora, CEO, Regional and Urban Development Agency.
The House was informed about the Sustainable Development Goals and the status of the plastic waste in the Jammu region by Ankush Varma Asst Director Regional & Urban Development Agency. The partners focused on use of digital Apps by the stakeholders such as waste pickers, recyclers, ULB's and citizens so as to integrate everyone into the digital cloud. All the stakeholders pledged that the dry waste will not be burnt in open and the plastic waste won't be sold to the informal aggregators.
Earlier, Mohd Ameen Consultant UNDP India briefed the audience about the importance of Plastic Waste Management Programme initiated by UNDP in Jammu.Anoo Malhotra requested all the stake holders to collaborate with the agency so that the plastic disposable model of the Industrial estates of Jammu region emerges to be the best in the country and also directed for organizing such orientation programme in all other districts.Rattan Dogra, Chairman, Federation of Industries Jammu asked for framing the Do's and Dont's for the Industrial Units so that wider publicity be ensured. Designated area and the modalities were discussed on the ways by which waste can be segregated in the Industrial Estate and the involvement of Safai Sathis picking/collecting of waste can be more inclusive. The programme ended with the vote of thanks from the Director I&C, Jammu, Anoo Malhotra.
