Dog Squad detects Narcotics; huge quantity of poppy straw recovered

JAMMU, Jan 21: District Police Jammu achieved a major success in its efforts against drug menace with the recovery of around 300 kg of poppy straw like substance with the assistance of the Dog squad Jammu.
The Dog Squad has been deployed at Ban toll plaza for assisting while naka checking. A police party of PS Nagrota led by SHO Nagrota, Insp Mohd Shokat and SI Ankuj Kumar, while on naka checking on January 21, 2020 stopped a truck bearing number PB07AF/4571 for checking. The persons on board were identified as Kuldeep Ram, S/o Diyal Ram, R/o H.no 136, Village Mithrah, Phillaur, Jalandhar and Ravi Singh, S/o Kashmir Singh, R/o Patti, Haveli Malsian, Shahkot, Jalandhar.
On checking, the Dog Squad indicated presence of narcotics in the vehicle, which led the naka party to conduct an even more thorough search, whereafter several boxes of apples were unloaded and beneath the apple boxes, around 300 kg of poppy straw like substance was found hidden. In relation to this, Fir no. 26/2020 u/s 8/15/29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at PS Nagrota and investigation initiated. In the days to come, the Dog Squad will be deployed to search several other areas in District Jammu, where use, sale and/or storage of contraband is suspected.
