PCC fixes rates of perishable, non-perishable items

JAMMU, Oct 23: Food Civil Supplies and Consu-mer Affairs Department has decided to go tough against the business establishments found indulging in unfair trade practices, including hoarding and overcharging, especially during the current festival season.
A meeting of Price Consultative Committee (PCC), under the chairmanship of Director, Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Jammu, Jatinder Singh, was held today here at Directorate for fixing the prices of perishable (Fruits and Vegetables) and non perishable items for Jammu district.
The meeting holds significance in view of the large number of complaints and grievances received from across the district especially during the ongoing festive season.
After due deliberations and discussions with representatives from various associations, the department fixed the upper ceiling of 40 percent over and above the whole sale rates of perishable items of fruits and vegetables which are provided by the Horticulture Marketing and Planning department.
Similarly, for non perishable items the upper ceiling is fixed at 30 percent over and above the whole sale rates provided by the Horticulture Marketing and Planning department on a daily basis.
These rates are daily calculated by the Horticulture Marketing and Planning department and are also updated daily at 11 am on their web site agmarknet.nic.in.
It is pertinent to mention here that Price monitoring committees and enforcement teams have already been constituted by the Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs department and Legal Metrology Department who are monitoring the prices in the market on daily basis and are also imposing fines on violators.
The retailers of Fruits and Vegetables have also been directed to display the rate lists of the items being sold in their respective establishments so that consumer does not feel any hardship.
Among others present in the meeting were V.S Sambyal, Joint Director Legal Metrology Depar-tment; Dig Vijay, Joint Director Horticulture Department; Manoj Prab-hakar, Deputy Director Legal Metrology Depart-ment; Narinder Kour, Deputy Director Supplies; Vipan Bhagat, Assistant Director Enforcement Jam-mu and Area Inspectors of Jammu district.
Besides representatives from fruits and vegetable associations including Nitin Jain Secretary Jammu Fruits Association, Joginder Mohan Puri General Secretary Sabzi Mandi Association Jammu and others attended the meeting.
