I miss offering anjali to Ma Durga at our own pandal: Rituparna Sengupta

24/10/2020

Actress Rituparna Sengupta has had a long connect with Mumbai’s Durga Puja. The actress has been the ambassador of some, performed and been a part of many of the city’s biggest pandals.
However, this year, the actress has been with her family in Singapore since the last seven months and talking about her Durga Puja plans she says, “My days in Singapore during the Pujo will be all about little outings on Pujo days with friends- five only at one time, that’s the rule here! I will wear saris, offer prayers to Durga Ma and will have a Bengali lunch.’
Telling us about what makes her nostalgic about Mumbai, she states, “What I really miss about Mumbai’s Durga Puja is the positivity and the synergy. The cosmopolitan crowd are a huge part in our Durga Puja and that gives it a beautiful dimension. I will miss seeing my posters there during Durga Puja.”
She adds, “Since association Pujas aren’t allowed anywhere, so, this time so we have divided our groups to celebrate our pujo in our own way. We will do some charity work through one organisation where we will be giving clothes and food to children and elders.
This is something that we do every year in Kolkata. I will try to offer anjali virtually. I will miss wearing my red tika and brand new sari to offer anjali to Ma durga at our own pandal! A lot of my friends will have small pujas at their residences in Kolkata and we will wait to see their pujo and arti virtually. I will miss all the delicious food and bhog, this year.”
During this pandemic Durga Puja will bring us hope and faith. Rituparna says, “Our minds are clouded with a lot of indecisiveness and sadness. I think Ma Durga will eradicate all that is there and help us rebuild our confidence and our society as a whole. She will take away the pain caused by Covid 19 and will stop the disease from taking any more lives. I hope and pray we'll all come back again to a cleaner and a positive society.”
“During Puja this year, I will miss everything and everyone, especially my dad. He is no more and I think he is watching us as we explore and experience a completely different puja this year,” she signs off.
